When You’re Sick of Your Life – Reinvent It
Wednesday, July 6th, 2011
When clients experience this feeling of being sick of themselves or their lives, it’s a distressing time. They want to give up and start over with a clean sheet of paper. If they’re interested in a big change and have sufficient motivation to do it, a geographical change can be a real boost to supercharge their batteries. (More magazine’s February issue had an article on women reinventing themselves abroad).
But if you have ties where you are, no resources to live somewhere like Paris, or just need to take a smaller step, here are some things you can do to get a new lease on your life:
Learn something new. Consider flying lessons, golf lessons or horseback riding lessons. No interest in something that active, then sign up for an adult class or peruse your library shelf for material about a subject you’ve always been curious about. Immerse yourself to the point of stimulation and creativity to inform your present life, but not to avoid it.
Relive the good old days. If thinking of former times make you feel peaceful and happy, take an old friend to lunch and share good times. Go over your photo albums and review favorite pictures. Invest time in a rewarding project, such as putting the old photos on a disk or safeguarding your family’s memories by having transferred your 8MM film to CD. Be careful not to overstay your welcome on memory lane, but hang out as long as it nurtures your present day situation.
Imagine the future Maybe you can’t get away to give time or other resources to another project, but a little escapism can be just the reviving and re-energizing thing you need. There are plenty of time travel films that help you imagine the benefits of seeing other places. Consider viewing Midnight in Paris, a perfect example of this. Movies like this can help you enjoy a taste of new experiences, remind you how to appreciate where you are in your life and the myriad of choices open before you.
