Fire Crisis and a Glad Giving of Support
The California fires have been brought closer to home for me, as my family and their homes in their small, north county San Diego community, barely survived the devastation.
Joe and I had just returned from a week’s vacation and upon calling my family to check-in, found that they were being evacuated and on their way to our house in L.A. Minutes from arriving home from the airport we prepared to receive nine guests.
For the past four and a half days we kept our eyes on the t.v., our ears to the radio and had all phones active to hear any news, while we prayed for positive results. Each person took their turn in tears and laughter in sharing their concerns and others shared a kind word, a big hug or gave them space to be alone as they needed. It was a gift for Joe and I that we could provide a safe and warm home and keep the coffee and food coming.
My sister’s home is the only unmanned home left standing in her neighborhood. My brother’s home and his horses were just barely saved. My other family members’ homes were okay too. We attribute much of this good fortune to God and family loving and supporting each other.
My prayers go out to all those less fortunate folks whose health or homes were damaged. May you resurface from this experience with love and appreciation for the preciousness of life – as it has touched my family’s hearts – and seek support from others as needed.
This is no small life change and we’re one big community that is here for you!
